The hotel is cute and nice. It's newly remodeled and looks real good. It provided daily continental breakfast, which saved a few dollars. The only things I didn't like were one, there was no elevator from the bottom of the hotel to the front desk. I had to carry my bags up the stairs to reach the front desk and, vice versa. And second, the walls in the room are quite thin. I sometimes could hear my neighbors talking and walking down the hall.

Me and my husband recently had our first trip to Oahu, Hawaii. We were excited about it! We had a few options to hotel on Waikiki beach but decided to pick the The Equus for its decent boutique style and decent price. When we first arrived, it was hard to find the front entrance and hotel. The sign on the small hotel was barely big enough to read from afar and you had to carry "All" your luggage up the stairs to the hotel entrance. That was ridiculous! We checked in 2-3 hrs early and they were nice enough to let us leave our luggages in the hotel staff lunch room, opened enough to where you could see from check-in...(sarcastic remark) We returned after the room was cleaned, tried to use the elevator but it was soo...slow! The room was nice but the AC didnt work, the front desk was unhelpful and rude but the AC finally came on after 30 min.For the next two days I was rudely bothered three times by the front desk to look for the previous customer's belongings. I found it unprofessional. Although the room looked clean, I found a bloody cotton ball under my bed skirt that had been there for a few days. And there were small ants in the bathroom and our room every day all day. I was very displeased! The good things were the complimentary breakfast, comfy bed, close to Ala Moana Mall, but a far walk to Waikiki beach. Take the BUS!

FROM THE STREET ENTRANCE ALL ONE SEES ARE THE FLIGHT OF STAIRS TO THE LOBBY, A STRIPED AWNING OVER THE ENTRY, LOTS OF WELL SHINED BRASS AND PLANTS EVERY WHERE.CLIMB UP THE STAIRS AND ONE IS GREETED BY A QUAINT TROPICAL HIDEAWAY.LOTS OF NICE CUSTOM WOOD TOUCHES AT THE FRONT DESK AND LOBBY AND AN EXTENSIVE AND UNIQUE COLLECTION OF EQUESTRIAN ART DECORATING THE LOBBY WALLS.THE PANIOLA(HAWAIIAN COWBOY) THEME RESONATES THROUGHOUT THE HOTEL, WITH HISTORICAL PHOTOS OF HAWAIIAN RANCHING AND COWBOY SECENES LINING THE HALLWAYS TO THE ROOMS.SERVICE IS EXCEPTIONAL:PERSONAL AND FRIENDLY AS BEFITS A TRUE""BOUTIQUE HOTEL"".ROOMS ARE NICELY DECORATED WITH VERY COMFORTABLE BEDS AND LOTS OF PILLOWS,IN ROOM INTERNET TV AND REFIG AND COFFEE MAKER. ALL THAT WE NEEDED.ALL IS NEWLY RENOVATED AND DONE WELL TO BOOT.A CLASSY PROPERTY AT HALF THE PRICE (OR LESS) THAN THE BIG CHAIN HOTELS ON THE BEACH.AND MUCH IS FREE AS WELL:MORNING PAPER,LOCAL CALLS,BREAKFAST, IN ROOM INTERNET.NICE NOT TO BE NICKLED AND DIMED FOR A CHANGE.AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR THE DISCERNING TRAVELLER LOOKING FOR SOMETHING MORE THAN THE USUAL COOKIE CUTTER CHAIN EXPERIENCE.

The Bad 1). Poor continental breakfast starting at 7:30 while activites around the area have already started at 7 or before. 2). A/c maintenance requested was ignored 2 times until got firm with front desk 3). dicovered used tampon, completely clogged dirty air filter, moldy grout in shower 4). For $* more could have got 3 1/2 star hotel 2 blocks away at the Hilton Hawaiian Hotel 5). No off the street accessibility for unloading/loading luggage The Good 1). Found free parking just a block away every night 2). Very reasonable restaurants, stores 1 block away

Overall - great, especially value for money. Extra bonus -- fireworks over the ocean. Could be better -- the continental breakfast. But the coffee was good. Internet connectivity is great, but requires Ethernet cable. Suggestion for improvement: add wireless to room modem equipment. The room itself was excellent, even more to my personal tastes than typical high-dollar hotel rooms. Staff was excellent.
